So, I decided it would be super cool and original to make these cookies, have our kids frost them and then I would pipe "I love my Mummy" onto them. Of course, our kids didn't really get it, but I was still excited about making them and they were delicious! They are just simple sugar cookies and very easy to make. I'm sure you all don't have a cool mummy cookie cutter to use, but that's okay...make the cookies anyway! (Oh, this is the recipe that came with the cutter...I don't know if it's any different from regular sugar cookies since this is the first time I've ever made them)
What you'll need---
1 cup butter, softened
2/3 cup sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour, sifted
(Yup! That's it!)
What you'll do---
Step 1: Cream together the butter and the sugar.
Step 2: Beat in the egg, make sure you scrape down the sides to get it all incorporated.
Step 3: Combine the vanilla and sifted flour in a smaller bowl.
Step 4: Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix until all the ingredients are well blended.
You'll get a nice ball of dough, like this--
Step 5: Wrap the dough up and let it chill in the refrigerator for around an hour, until it's nice and hard.
Step 6: When the dough has chilled, roll it out and then cut out your cookies!
Looks like France, doesn't it?
Mummies!
Step 7: Bake at 350 for 8-10 mins until the cookies are barely colored. I had no idea what barely colored looked like, so I just baked mine for about 9 minutes and that seemed perfect.
Step 8: When the cookies are all cooled, you can make some frosting for them. I used this recipe because it was also given with the cutter--
Frosting---
3/4 cup confectioner's sugar
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp lemon juice
Melt the butter and then combine all the ingredients and beat until smooth. (This recipe doesn't make much frosting, only about 1/3 cup, so I pretty much sextupled it...I don't think that's a word).
I personally liked the cookies better without frosting, but it's always fun to decorate them and what could be better than making mummies for mommies!?!
Haha, what a clever idea! And coming from you, this is a perfect mother's day idea. :)
